Selling bottled water is one of the most successful advertising campaigns ever. Whoever thought that corporations would succeed in selling you something you could get for virtually free?  Not only have they convinced millions of people that they need bottled water, that it’s healthier and safer, they’re also selling it for enormous profits. Purchasing this water is also contributing to a growing heap of plastic waste. Most likely, that bottle you are drinking from will end up as either landfill, litter, or in the ocean.  Water bottles are not recycled back into water bottles.  If, and that’s a big If, (only 12% of plastic water bottles are recycled) those bottles are recycled, they are turned into clothing or carpet, which cannot be recycled again. Every single plastic water bottle ever made is virgin plastic.  These corporations are not concerned with the waste generated by their products, they just want to sell you water.  Garbage is not their problem.  Therefore, it’s more important than ever to make your dollar speak.  Get a reusable bottle, fill it yourself.  Reduce your plastic footprint.  Say no to plastic water bottles, plastic shopping bags, plastic soda and juice bottles, plastic drink cups, styrofoam take-out boxes, and then, educate your friends to do the same.  You can make a difference with your purchasing power, or rather, with your non-purchasing power.  If we keep buying it, they will keep making it.
